We're very excited to announce soundtrack for Liberty's Secret, featuring 10 original songs, will be available on July 4, 2017. (This was a project that we had to put on the back burner while the movie was on its festival run.) If you want to be the first on your block to own the soundtrack, you can pre-order now on Amazon or iTunes. We are also in the process of manufacturing a CD that will include all of the lyrics and a few choice photos, if you happen prefer discs -- or want to sing along. (The CD will be available on cdbaby.com, but probably not until the end of July.) Following the release on iTunes and Amazon, the soundtrack will be playing on streaming services like Spotify. If you do buy the album, please consider leaving us a review and a rating. (Reviews are HUGE help to spreading word about the movie/music.)
After our exciting premiere at the Michigan Theater last month, we had a great time introducing the film to audiences at two queer film festivals in Germany, Homochrom and Pride Pictures. The crowds were very enthusiastic (lots of laughter at the absurdity of American politics), and we got a glowing review in the German lesbian entertainment publication, Phenomenelle. (If you don't read German, you can get the gist of it from Google Translate.) This week, we are heading off to California for two screenings at the Ojai Film Festival, Nov. 4 and 11. If you are in the area, please come by. (Only 75 miles from L.A!) Cara, Jacléne and I (Andy) will be attending the Nov. 4 (8PM) screening and doing a Q&A session afterwards. We'll also be screening at the East Lansing Film Festival on Nov. 5, for all of you Michiganders who couldn't make it to the premiere. And if you can't make it to any of the screenings, the movie is now available for pre-order at VimeoOnDemand. Pre-order before Nov. 4, enter coupon code "LS" and you can purchase the movie for just $4.99 (That's 50% off the usual price.) You won't be charged until the movie is released on Nov. 4, and you will own the movie for life!
Almost eight years in the making, our good old-fashioned lesbian movie-musical will premiere on Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Michigan Theater, Ann Arbor, MI at 8PM, for one night only! Info on tickets and reservations will be coming soon, so please stay tuned to this page for more specifics. For those of you who are not in Ann Arbor or environs, (yes, I am talking to you, dear Australian, Indonesian, and other International fans), we are currently working out a way for you to screen the film publicly or privately in your own communities, shortly after the Sept. 22 premiere here. More details coming soon on how you can screen Liberty's Secret right where you live.
Dear Friends and Fans of Liberty,
I've been so busy putting finishing touches on the movie, that I haven't posted here in a while. Sorry about that!
Apart from a few typos in the credits and a color tweak or two, the movie is done. We are now turning our attention giving it the best possible launch into the world. (Kind of like sending your kid off to college -- which I am also doing this year.) While we are still waiting for word on a few film fest submissions, we do know for sure that we will be premiering the film on or before Sept 22, when have booked a theater in Ann Arbor for a big public event. More on that in a later post.
This summer will be devoted to getting all our publicity and marketing materials ready, building up our network of partnerships, and preparing for the release. We hope to have the movie up and available on several online platforms by Fall. Thank you for your patience! I know this movie has been a long time in coming.
In the meantime, here is a short clip from one of my favorite scenes/songs. Without giving up too much of the movie's plot, I will say that it comes at an emotional low point in the story -- hence the bluesy music and unrestrained imbibing of alcohol. Cara AnnMarie gives a terrific performance, both singing and acting. Hope you enjoy it. Send me or post a comment if you do! Best, Andy
P.S. The music sounds MUCH better with headphones than on computer or phone speakers. So if you want to hear those bluesy bass lines ...
Happy Valentine's Day from Liberty's Secret! As I've been developing a press kit for the movie lately, I've been sifting through production stills to find the very best ones. There are so many to choose from, but here is one of my favorites. Maybe it had something to do with getting "married" on the third day that they knew each other, but Cara and Jacléne had an instant bond and chemistry. I think you can see it here. Could they become the lesbian Fred and Ginger?
Now that the picture edit is done, we are finishing up post-production on the movie so it can be ready for a film festival premiere early next year. (Not sure exactly where or when yet, but stay tuned ...) We've officially entered the "tweaking" stage of the process -- adjusting color, balancing dialog levels, polishing visual effects shots. To me, it is a very interesting process, but a bit like being a dental hygienist, I imagine -- trying to clean up every nook and cranny of the movie so its smile is as bright as possible. Here's one of the visual effects shots I just finished. Since we didn't exactly have the budget to send our stars to Mt. Rushmore, we shot them in front of a green screen, and swapped out the green for those four chiseled dudes you see in the background:) (This is a shot from Liberty and Nikki's campaign road trip.)
We were in the University of Michigan recording studios last week, recording Jaclene's final vocals for Liberty's big love song. She did a terrific job. The result is heartfelt, beautiful, and devastating.
After several months of editing, I have finished a rough cut of the entire film. It clocks in at 1hr and 38 minutes. Just about the perfect length once I trim a few things, and put in a montage or two. Next steps are to record the rest of the music, finalize the edit, and begin work on editing the sound and tweaking the color. Hoping to have the film ready for submission to film festivals by September.
